# Publishing clips together in a collection A collection is a container for **sharing several clips under one URL**. It isn't a folder. A clip can belong to several collections at once, or to none at all. Think of it as a **unit of sharing** — "share this set of meeting notes," "hand over the whole set of event pages as a single link." ## Creating one From the collections list, choose **+ New collection** and give it a name, a description, and a visibility setting. Creating it takes you to its detail screen and opens the **Add clips** dialog right away. The description appears on the public page and is used as the summary when someone pastes the link into a chat. You can leave it empty, but the list will show "No description." ## Adding and removing clips Use **+ Add clips** on the detail screen to search your own clips and pick them. - Clips already in the collection show up checked. Uncheck one and it leaves the collection - Newly added clips go to the **top of the list** - You can't add archived clips. If you archive a clip that's already in the collection, it stays put with an "Archived" badge **Removing is not deleting.** Removing only breaks the link to the collection; the clip itself stays where it is. To get rid of the clip, delete it from the clip list. ## Reordering - **On a computer**: grab the handle at the left of a row and drag it - **On a phone**: enter reorder mode, move rows with the up and down buttons, then press **Done**. Leave the screen without pressing Done and your changes are discarded This order is exactly the order things appear in on the public page. ## Publishing Set a collection's visibility to public and its URL — `https://clipnote.paritto.dev/c/…` — starts working. This part has a wrinkle, so here it is as a table: | Situation | What's visible | | --- | --- | | Someone else opens a public collection | Only the **public** clips in it | | You open your own public collection | Everything, private clips included | | A private collection | Only you can open it at all | In other words, **publishing a collection does not publish the clips inside it.** Each clip's own visibility still applies. ### Publishing the private clips in one go When a public collection contains private clips, a warning appears on the detail screen. Below it, **Make all private clips public** switches over just the private clips in that collection. Because it makes things visible to other people, it asks for confirmation. It doesn't touch other collections or the collection's own visibility. ## Checking the public page **View public page** on the detail screen opens the real thing in a new tab. Bear in mind that **you'll see the private clips too**. To check what a stranger sees, open it in a browser that isn't logged in — a private window will do. ## View counts Same rule as clips: counted while the collection is public, and only when someone other than you opens it. The list shows it as a number of views. ## Deleting Deleting a collection **does not delete the clips in it**. Only the grouping goes away. ## Read next - [Publishing and sharing a clip](https://clipnote.paritto.dev/p/a921f4f9-88ce-45fa-9bf9-264f2f19e6a9) - [Saving and organizing clips](https://clipnote.paritto.dev/p/2813a01c-5ba9-4bca-ae90-ef4f76d3cc85)
